This site will remain up in case old members are feeling nostalgic, but here’s looking forward to an exciting new school year!
This year, RnJ changed it up a bit and had tour during spring break instead of winter. We had the amazing privilege of spending the week in St. Louis, graciously hosted by our member Ruth and her family. Throughout the week, we had some really productive rehearsals, amazing gigs, and relaxing sightseeing opportunities!
We kicked off tour bright and early by performing for the local Kol Rinah congregation – peep Graham enjoying Kiddush at the kids’ table
We also loved working with a couple choirs at Clayton High School, and singing for Saul Mirowitz Day School and the Covenant Place community, and we had a lovely performance at the Daniel Boone Library.
With a couple days off from gigs, RnJ got hard to work on some new arrangements (keep an ear out for new tunes that we’ll be debuting by the end of the quarter), and we took some time to relax and watch some movies – 12/10 would recommend Coco and The Disaster Artist!
Of course, we had to explore a city as awesome as St. Louis! We loved climbing around and almost getting stuck in the City Museum
And we even ambitiously decided to bring the UChicago tradition of the Arch sing to the greatest arch of them all:
And we had an exciting (albeit blurry time) 630 feet in the air!
We also got to bring the arch sing to Washington University when we sang with their Jewish a cappella group, Staam! Check out this clip of us singing the universal Jewish a cappella group standard, Nachamu.
While we had a great time in St. Louis, we are so glad to be back in Chicago, and we have a bunch of exciting things planned for this quarter – keep an eye out for our upcoming gigs. We’ll also begin recording some songs in anticipation of a new album that we’re looking to release next year, so Rhythm & Jews definitely has a full quarter ahead!
This Fall Quarter has been excellent. RnJ had some awesome rehearsals, hangouts, study sessions, and gigs, but most importantly we welcomed four new members! Thank you and congratulations to:

3 things RnJ doesn’t typically encounter in Chicago: cacti, mountain ranges, and Christmas carols.
3 things RnJ did over their winter tour to Phoenix, Arizona: saw some cacti, climbed a mountain, and sang a Christmas carol
We had a wonderful, lovely tour with our newbies after finals week ended, and we shot this video on the top of Piestewa Peak, the highest point in the Phoenix mountain range, to commemorate the trip. We all went our separate ways a week ago to recharge and spend time with family and friends before we hit the ground running winter quarter preparing for the ICCA quarterfinals 3rd week! See you soon Chicago, and thanks Phoenix for welcoming us to the land of sand and Saguaros.
We are so thrilled to announce that we will be competing in the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella for the first time ever this winter quarter! We’ve all worked incredibly hard to get to this point, and we could not be more excited.
A huge congratulations to our fellow UChicago a cappella groups Men in Drag, The Ransom Notes, and Run For Cover as well!

This March, RnJ traveled to Washington, DC to compete against other top Jewish a cappella groups at Kol HaOlam. Videos of our performance set are now available; check them out!
Over the past weekend, we’ve been in the studio with The Vocal Company recording 4 songs for our upcoming EP, to be released next fall. After a total of 45 hours in the basement of the Logan Center and 60 separate vocal tracks recorded, we can’t wait to share these songs with you!
